All about Rapper
Rapper Dancing is a form of traditional dancing that originates from the counties of Durham and Northumberland in north east of England. The dances themselves are fast and spectacular, involving many complex and intricate figures. The figures range from quite simple, to more difficult and elaborate movements. The dances are performed by five dancers who each carry a Rapper sword. These swords are short and flexible with a handle at each end, one of which rotates and is held in the right hand.
The stepping that is performed through out the dance is distinctive to rapper, and very quick. With each dancer continuously on alternate feet taking two short steps to each bar. However, the stepping can be altered with breaks being put in.
There is no particular tune played for rapper dancing but any jig tune played in 6-8 time can be used.
