Who was your first musical hero? Who were your early influences?
First musical heroes: The Beatles, especially after "She Loves You".
Early influences: My sister started me playing guitar by teaching me songs by the likes of Paul Simon, Tom Paxon and Bob Dylan. Then in 1972 I worked out an Al Stewart song and the rest is (cliché deleted).
When did first sing in a folk club, and where?
During the academic year 74-75 at Padgate College Folk Club, when I was a student.
Briefly, what is your musical pedigree?
Although I've played guitar since 1969, I can't read music. I'm not sure what you mean by this question as I am a musical mongrel.
Does Rock n' Roll have a place in Folk clubs?
Folk music is the popular music of past times. Which year do you chose to be the dividing line between acceptable and taboo popular music? If a Rock n' Roll song can be performed in an intimate acoustic atmosphere of a folk club, why not? There ain't no cure but there's certainly a place for the summer time blues!
Who are your main influences nowadays?
None. Perhaps you could suggest me one?

Elvis Presley, cos' I could get rich quick.
What are your plans for Whitby festival?
In no particular order: Play Rock n' Roll, meet the friends I've made previous years, go on Jean's pub crawl, see some good acts, explore Whitby Abbey again, listen to seagulls, help keep brewery workers in employment.
